Sitting here this afternoon listening to “Rainbow Connection” on repeat. I am not sure who sings it better Kermit the Frog or Willie Nelson. I guess each one gives it their own unique charm. I heard it on a commercial the other day and now I can’t stop listening to it. To me the song is magic. The same magic I am looking for during this season of Holidays. The Muppet Movie was the first movie that I ever put on each night before I went to bed. I loved this movie, man this takes me back. Now none of this has anything to do with the movie I watched last night, so let’s go.
Man, I really like Tom Cavanagh. I think he plays the part he is playing really well. I really hope he is every bit as dorky in real life as what I imagine him as. Also, I am not sure it would be possible to imagine him as a nicer person that I think of him as. The bit clueless, distracted acting is perfect for what this role calls for. I think I am starting to turn on Ashley Williams though. Her expressions are just a little to extreme for me. The happiness, and surprising moments are almost to over acted. Her face is just so expressive. It seems like every reaction is just too much. It might just be her thing. I haven’t seen her in enough to know. Still, she hung with Shawn and Gus for the one Psych episode, so I will continue to give her the benefit of the doubt. I like them both for the roles they reprised in Snow II. I thought they were better together in the deuce than the original.
To me Snow II is more fluid than the original. The film is cleaner and in widescreen so that made me happy. The title makes no sense to me because Braine Freeze is something that happens when you drink your smoothie to fast. There were not smoothies in the movie, or ice cream for that matter. Now, I know that isn’t what they were going for, but still, you go with brain freeze, eat something cold.
The movie had its moments where I felt some real holiday magic, more so than the first. However, in many places the movie dragged. I found myself really annoyed with the bad guy. I mean it was over the top pointless conflict. The movie would have been much better without him. Overall, he just poisoned me on the whole movie. He was a plot device in the first movie. However, in the second he was just annoying and not needed. Again, other things in the movie that could have moved it along without him.
Overall, I think the Snow movies were ok. I really wanted to love them. I did. I really like Tom Cavanagh, he seems like my kind of nerd. However, it was just not there for me. I would give them 5 out of 10 on the cheer meter. I would say if you watch them and you low expectations then you will be ok. If you watch them looking for true magic, it isn’t really there. I think to the educated Holiday Movie watcher you can live without this one, but if you are in a pinch for something new, or if you just think Tom Cavanagh is you kind of nerd, then go for it. I don’t regret watching them, I just can’t really tell you the reader to run out and watch them and feel good about myself. However, I do find things I watch with zero expectation turn out better than expected, Solo is the perfect example!
Agenda for tonight: Unknown… tomorrow is Holidate for sure. It was going to watch Last Christmas, but my access to HBO Max is gone… grumble grumble grumble…. So, I might scroll through the Hallmark Section of Amazon Prime after I pick up the Kona.
Now back to that Rainbow
Connection and my modified lyrics:
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection
