It’s hard for me to see Rob Lowe and not see Chris Traeger.  He is classic in that role.  He has the starring role in Holiday in the Wild.  He starred along with the one girl who I thought was the cute one from Sex in the City.  I never watched that show, but I always thought Kristin Davis was the cutest of the four.  This is the second time I watched Holiday in the Wild.  This is the first movie I watched this Holiday Season that I had seen before.  Not because there aren’t enough movies out there to keep me busy until Christmas but there are some you like and repeat.  Also, with so many Holiday movies out there I had to start putting them into two categories:  features and fillers.  Features being movies I think or believe will be good and should be watched with full attention.  For example, watching a movie on a work night would be feature category.  While watching a movie to pass the time on a Saturday would be filler.  Snow and Snow II are fillers, but Happiest Season is definitely a feature.  This helps me sort the movies and determine what to watch.  Otherwise I am spending an endless amount of time trying to pick one. I swear I spent 30 minutes trying to decide last night.  I think I am going to have to come up with a list of what to watch and when.

I enjoy this movie.  I like the elephants.  For some reason watching the elephants makes me want to huge my little Kona and tell her what a good girl she is.  I feel lucky to have her watch this movie with me. Of course, when I say watch I really mean sleep while I watch but I lean over and scratch her back sometimes and she gets up and stares at me for a minutes before falling over back to sleep.

This movie follows your typical holiday formula.  Star 1 – Kristin Davis is in a dead-end relationship and realizes when her son leaves home for college.  Interesting side note here the son is played by Rob Lowe’s son.  I am assuming this is a son from after he made the sex tape.  Wasn’t that sex tape made with a girl underage?  How did he not end up in jail for that?  Must be nice to be Rob Lowe.  Anyway, Star 1 bad marriage, takes trip to Africa.  There she meets Star 2 – Rob Lowe.  They don’t mix well together at all and get off to a very rocky start.  Turns out Star 2 must fly Star 1 some where b/c he is a pilot who works for the people she planned the trip with.  On the way he spots a baby elephant whose mother has been killed.  So, he sets down the plane, helps rescue the baby elephant.  Star 1 who is a vet, did I tell you that she was a former vet, they work that into the movie before, feels the need to help the baby elephant.  So, the two find a common ground with the elephant.  This leads them to an elephant rescue where Star 1 decides to spend her vacation.  Can a friendship blossom over the elephants?  Can Star 1 find purpose after her child has left home?

I like the movie and I recommend it to people who like a good romcom and Holiday Movies that follow the general formula.  My cheer meter on this was down this year.  I think I really enjoyed it more the first time around.  The second time the magic was gone.  I will give it a 6 out of 10.  IMDb gives it a 6.1, while Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 48%.  I don’t think it was that bad.  However, it won’t win any Oscars.  It is nice.  The stars are good together.  It has awesome elephants and you can’t go wrong with them.  I will say now that I think of it Lowe has some really cheesy lines in this, while they are intended to make a point about serious topics, they are things people would not say in real conversation.  However, it is Chris Traeger and we love him anyway.

Trivia - was originally called Christmas in the Wild

Kristin Davis in actually into elephants and plays a part in helping rescue them and trying to save their population.
