Finally! Back on the Bullet

These messages are coming far to infrequently these days.  Here we are with only 8 days to go in 2022 and the blogging and riding have all but dried up.  The weather turning cold doesn’t help.  Work being well work doesn’t help either.  However, with that said I was able to finally get back out on the bike today and it was fantastic.

It was a brisk 48 degrees at the time of pushing off today.  I thought I would be fine in my cycle jersey, long pants, and arm warmers, but the Wind God, found a way to find every little opening in my gear and make me shiver.  It was cold out there for someone who has spent most of his live in California.

Other than the wind and being a little cold, things were good after a while.  However, when I first pushed off, I accidently put my front gears into the small ring, and I couldn’t remember how to shift back into the big ring.  I was a swerving mess, trying to figure out how to use my electric shifting.  Thank goodness for the large bike lane I was in because I was seriously all over it.     Luckily for me after a bit I remembered how the gears on my new bike worked and I was able to get back into the big ring, which I stayed in for the rest of the ride.

The goal for today wasn’t to attack hills, it was just to go out and spin because I had the time to go out and spin.  So, I took to a flat path that I know and ended up doing over 13 miles in just over an hour.  My average speed was 11.5 mph which is higher than that what I was averaging on Mr. Fuji, just making me think that the Silver Bullet is the right bike for me at just the right time.

There were times out there on the flats that I thought I was working harder than I needed to.  I wasn’t sure if that was being off the bike for a long period of time; if my tire had come untrue or if I just haven’t figured out my gearing yet.  Testing my back tire when I got home, I think it is true, but I will have El Beav have a look at it tomorrow as we are pimping out my ride with the new lights and coospo I have for it.

I wish I had my computer on the bike today because I think I rode a good cadence.  I felt like I was peddling more and coasting a lot less than I used too. There were a couple od stretches that I told myself to just keep peddling, and not to try to coast and I did.

I felt like my endurance is still right on track.  I felt like my lungs were great out there, and I was not wheezing like an old goat.  It is good to get back on the bike and feel strong.

I wonder how many miles I ended up riding this year, it was over 1,000, if I get bored later I will probably add it up, that is just the kind of nerd I am.

Before, I forget Happy Birthday Bb, I love you!  Also, tomorrow is Christmas Eve so I want to wish everyone a Happy Holiday and a Merry NEW YEAR!
