And like all good things this too must end: Day 26
I
laughed, I had tears stream down my face, I shook my head in disbelief,
i hated a few, and wanted to bawl my eyes out, yes it’s the ups and
downs of the Holiday Movie marathon. Then you wake up the
next day and it’s over, you change the radio stations in your car back
to Hair Nation, Octane, and Ozzy’s Boneyard and once again you survived
Christmas. It was a great 26 days! I had an awesome Christmas. Even though I burnt the Ribs. Sorry Beav. That’s on me. Once again Holiday movies put me in a good spirit. They are such a great way to feel good or I should say help you to feel good. I felt great this year! 42 movies over 26 days, I really love movies.
I finished the Movie Marathon on Christmas Day. Taking down three classics and one new movie.
It’s A Wonderful Life, should kicks off every Christmas Morning for me. I think it’s awesome. I watch it in the original Black and White. To me that somehow makes it a little more special. It’s truly a wonderful story. Love, family, friendship wins over greed and hate. If you haven’t seen it watch. You won’t regret it! If it doesn’t make you feel good, then get to the doctor and make sure you aren’t dead!
Scrooged, I first saw this movie when I was 13. I took Kelly Ray and she was a dream come true. She was My Mom’s best friends granddaughter and I was smitten. She agreed to go see a movie with me. Naturally, I was terrified. I remember it like it was yesterday. 32 years wow, whee has the time gone. I remember I didn’t love the movie at the time. However, now it’s a staple. It’s the first movie I ever bought on Amazon Prime. I think I’ve realized this is a better Christmas Eve movie than Christmas Day movie and I’ll remember that in years to come. The movie makes sense to me now in a way it didn’t when I was 13. It jokes are smarter than what I was back then. It’s a Christmas classic and is probably my 2nd Favorite telling of Dickens behind Mickey’s Christmas Carol.
Christmas Vacation. If the Rose Bowl is the Granddaddy of them all when it comes to college football games. Then in my book when it comes to Christmas movies Christmas Vacation is the granddaddy of all Christmas Movies. I know it wasn’t the first. I know it wasn’t my first but it is the one I remember loving the most. It was movie magic! I watched this movie every night for like a year when I was 15 before I went to bed. I know I can recite almost every line from memory. I know it doesn’t movie me like it once did, but it’s Christmas Vacation and I never tire of it. I always forget something that makes me laugh.
It was supposed to end with Christmas Vacation. It was almost 10 pm, I was tired but not ready for bed. So, I said why not one more. Why not, maybe we can find a new classic. So, searched the Hallmark Now and Netflix and nothing jumped out at me. So, I decided after wanting to watch it all month that I’d watch Last Christmas. I mean after it had the mother of dragons in it. You can’t go wrong with that can you?
Last Christmas. Do you ever watch a movie and think wow, they almost had it. Like it was a few scenes away from blowing your fucking mind. It just fell a little short. It’s like watching your team lose the Super Bowl. They almost had it, just a catch the receiver should have had but dropped at the last at the last minute. Yes, Garçon I’m talking about you in 2009. Catch the 3rd down pass. Colts score and Drew Brees never beats us bc he doesn’t get the ball. The on-side kick wouldn’t have mattered. ...I still have unresolved issues about the colts last Super Bowl lose and I’ve digressed on the NFL Saturday. Anyone this had the making to be a classic I think missed it. I thought Emilia Clarke was great. I’m bias of course, I love the Queen of Dragons. The story was good, a unique take on the Holiday movie. It was close. Perhaps over time my feelings in the movie will change. I know I keep thinking about the characters which is a good sign. So it could end up growing on me.
Some movies I wanted to mention that I didn’t watch this year to keep them fresh and there are enough Holiday movies to rotate so you can keep them fresh. Check these out if you can:
12 Dates of Christmas
A Princess for Christmas
How the Grinch Stole Christmas
A Christmas Prince and sequels
The Knight Before Christmas
Dear Santa
Falling for Christmas
12 Dates and Dear Santa I love. It was hard not to watch them. They make me really happy and feel good. However, I think over the long term it’s the right move. Plus, there are a plethora of movies to watch for the Holidays.
