The 26 Days of Christmas Movies
Maybe I was 13 or 14 when I lost my Christmas Spirit I can’t really remember. I know It was around the time girls and became more important than my Christmas wish list. I’d held onto my believe in Santa Claus until I was 12. Logic and friends told me he wasn’t real but my heart told me he was. I was dreamer then like I’m a dream today and I wanted Santa Claus to be real. If Santa could be real the t he world could be a place of magic and wonder and anything was possible. However like my believe in Santa Claus faded so did my holiday spirit.
I’ve been desperately seeking my holiday cheer for the last few years. Somehow it always seems to allude me. Even four Christmas’s ago when I gifted myself with the best Christmas gift I ever got didn’t push my Christmas cheer to the max. I mean Kona Koffee Burkle is a great gift and life wouldn’t be the same without her, and she brings cheer year round but it didn’t get me in that giddy I can’t wait for Christmas mood.
So last year I decided I would experiment with Holiday cheer and watch at least one Christmas movie per day from December 1, 2019 until Christmas Day and you know what it helped. It helped a lot. I am not gonna say I was whistling Christmas Tunes out my asshole or anything but I found more Christmas cheer than I have had in years. The movies helped for sure. So starting tomorrow night a new Holiday tradition has begun for Kona and I. 26 days of watching Christmas movies begins.
Of course we are starting with “The Lego Star Wars Holiday Special” and most likely will end with Christmas Vacation on Christmas Night. Of course their will be an Elf watching on Christmas Eve just before bed. Now depending on Holiday plans their might be a flip flop between the greatest Christmas movie ever Elf and Christmas Vacation but only time and guest lists will decide that.
So, I’ve already showed my hand a bit by declaring Elf the greatest Christmas movie. After 26 days of Holiday joy will it remain on top? Who knows but most likely. The movie list is a moving target at this point but I have access to Christmas movies across multiple streaming services: Amazon, Netflix, YouTubeTV, Hulu, HBOmax, and Disney+. I’m stoked that I’ll have access to the Hallmark movies via YouTube TV. There will be classics watched like “It’s a Wonderful Life” and problem some mistakes made along the way.
What makes a good Christmas movie? Well that a good question. I’m not looking for Oscar winners with great acting. I’m looking for a cheer factor, something that makes me feel warm inside, happy, smile, laugh and maybe bring a tear to the eye. Yes there is a formula to Christmas movies and we will watch that unfold over the next 26 days. I’m excited about Christmas and watching is a big reason for it!
